Biography

Elizabeth Fitzpatrick has been an assistant professor in the Audiology/Speech-Language Pathology program at the University of Ottawa since 2007.  Prior to joining the university, she worked clinically in auditory (re)habilitation and audiology for more than 20 years, holding positions as audiologist, therapist and manager. Elizabeth completed her doctoral studies in population health at the University of Ottawa.  Her doctoral thesis involved a study of outcomes of newborn hearing screening and an exploration of parents’ needs following identification of their child’s hearing loss.  Current research projects build on this foundation to study outcomes in children with hearing aids and cochlear implants.  She is principal investigator on a study, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, examining clinical practices and outcomes for children with mild bilateral and unilateral hearing loss. Elizabeth is an investigator at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute and at the Ottawa Health Research Institute where she collaborates with the cochlear implant team to investigate questions related to adults with cochlear implants.  She holds a Canadian Institutes of Health Research New Investigator Award.
