Biography

Dr. Aleixo Muise received his BSc at St. Francis University. He then went to complete a PhD in Biochemistry at Dalhousie University under the supervision of Hyo-Sung Ro. His Doctoral work was published in a number of high impact journals including Nature, EMBO, JBC and Biochemical Journal. During his PhD studies he received a number of prestigious awards including the Patrick Prize in Biochemistry, the President's Teaching Award, and the medical Research Foundation Award. Most recently, he received the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine Star Medal.

Aleixo completed his M.D. at the University of Toronto and his Pediatric residency at the Hospital for Sick Children. He is now a Fellow in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Sick Kids. Throughout his post-graduate studies his research interests have centered on cell signalling. Aleixo plans to continue his training in GI and focus on the role of phosphatases in Pediatric Gastrointestinal disease in the lab of Professor Daniela Rotin. He is married to Dr. Debra Stein and they have a toddler - Joseph Samuel.
