Biography

Todd Alexander is a clinician scientist completing his post-doctoral training in Nijmegen the Netherlands in the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Rene Bindels. His research interests focus on the coupling of transepithelial sodium and water transport to the movement of other ions, including protons. He will begin on faculty at the University of Alberta in the Department of Pediatrics October 2008. He completed his MD at the University of Western Ontario, pediatric specialty training at Memorial University Newfoundland, and both his subspecialty training in nephrology and PhD studies in cell biology at the University of Toronto. His PhD studies into the regulation of proximal tubular sodium and bicarbonate transport were completed in the laboratory of Dr. Sergio Grinstein. Salary support and mentorship during these studies were provided by the CCHCSP. Currently Todd holds a CIHR clinician scientist Phase I award and is participating in the KRESCENT post-doctoral research program.
